Our
Honored Teammate
Meet Vicki Lubbers
In addition to riding to help stop leukemia, lymphoma,
Hodgkin lymphoma and myeloma from taking more lives, we
are completing this bike ride in honor of all individuals
who are battling blood cancers. These people are the real
heroes on our team, and we need your support to cross
the ultimate finish line - a cure!
Vicki Lubbers is our team's offical Honored Teammate.
She is 54 years young. She was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic
Leukemia on July 2, 2002. Her birthday is April 2 and
she is currently in remission and receiving maintenance
chemotherapy. She is the loving wife of John, mother of
Angie, and proud grandma of Vivian. She enjoys music,
church, politics, and going to the theater. We are riding
for Vicki and the countless others like her.
We hope you'll help too by supporting the Leukemia &
Lymphoma Society with contributions at Michelle's
TNT Fund or Tom's
TNT Fund.
Our Personal Heroes
Friends and Family Touched by Cancer
Both Tom and Michelle's families have been affected by
one form of cancer or another. This gives real meaning
to their ride. Tom's brother, Bill and aunt Joan lost
their battles, but his mother Dorothy, aunt Carol, and
cousin Diane are winning theirs against breast cancer.
Michelle's cousin, Garrett, is winning his fight against
leukemia. But her grandmother, Laurette, recently lost
her's against cancer.
Tom and Michelle's good friend and mentor, John Purdy,
recently waged a courageous fight against colon cancer
and is now cancer-free. Says Tom, "I'll stay in the
saddle for 100 miles for my pal John, because I know it
would be a major pain in his ass." :-)
Tom and Michelle also want to include their friend Greg
Brothman's mother Flora, who was recently diagnosed with
leukemia, in their thoughts as they ride for a cure. |
